Carpfishing in Quarries and Small Lakes

Carpfishing In Quarries 0

Certainly among the places most frequented by carp fishermen, quarries and small lakes are present in large quantities throughout Europe and, especially, in some areas where the presence of large lakes is limited, these waters are one of the main spots where to practice carpfishing.

Moreover, being these quarries often abandoned, or in any case little frequented, the vegetation is present in great quantity both on the shores and on the bottom and all this involves some logistical difficulties in the preparation of the mail, but offers excellent guarantees of success.

When we deal with this type of water, we must not make the mistake of being hasty by devoting little time to the study of the morphology of the seabed and that is to search for submerged obstacles, bumps, depressions and other points of interest that, if identified and reported with precision, can greatly increase the chances of capture.

It should always be remembered that when fishing in these types of spots it is necessary to pay the utmost attention to the choice of boilies, favouring those not too loaded with additives and with a low protein intake.

Setting the Session

Once we have chosen the position and monitored the bottom possibly with the help of a small boat, we thread our baits in the preset points throwing in the water, next to these, a handful of boilies.

Let's repeat the operation for each rod and secure them to the rod pod keeping the clutch tight, obviously calibrated to the breaking load of the nylon used so as to prevent the fish, in case of bite, to take too much wire and to reach any obstacles.

After all, let's remember that the closer we get to the shores and to the submerged plants we manage to fish, the greater the chances of success; in essence, if we want to catch a nice fish, it is necessary to take some risks....

Equipment

Particular attention should be paid to the choice of equipment and the layout of the field, not underestimating the clothing and the kinds of comfort that in these situations assume a significant importance.

The choice of the rods will have to fall on powerful models 2,5-3 lb with semi parabolic action, able to contrast the escape of the fish to which we will have to combine powerful reels, spacious and suitable for this fishing technique.

On the reel it is possible to use both braided line and nylon, with a slight preference for the first, especially if we have to throw away.

When choosing the accessory to match the rods, always remember that the reel is a formidable fishing machine that in carpfishing, along with the rods and the rod-pod, allows you to undermine, retrieve and recover fish of very high tonnage, as rarely happens in other disciplines of freshwater fishing.

Quarry Hooklinks

The evolution that we have witnessed in carpfishing in recent years has led to significant changes in all areas: from specific techniques to undermine the carp to the bait used, but it is in the construction of the terminals that have been most concentrated efforts to obtain alternative and effective solutions.

Hooklinks for sinking boilies

Surely the most used trigger, the one made with sinking boilies, requires the use of a specific terminal well made and equipped with a hair-rig built with the utmost precision and length proportionate to the diameter of the boilies that will be used trying not to overweight the hook and the end not forgetting that many times the simplest solutions are also the most effective.

Pop-up Hooklinks

Pop-up boilies are a valid alternative to traditional triggers, guaranteeing excellent results in some cases.

Moreover, there are situations where the nature of the seabed recommends their use: strong presence of algae and rock, a muddy and smelly bottom, etc. .....

Baiting in carpfishing

Essentially aimed at catching large specimens, carpfishing is a technique that requires meticulous preparation, nothing should be left to chance and every detail should be studied in depth: we must prepare our fishing trip with the utmost care.

After all, the mistrust of the big carp is well known and in order to be able to catch them, it is necessary to put into practice a whole series of specific measures aimed at the purpose.

Moreover, the large carp are not so numerous, so it is necessary to carefully monitor the fishing grounds in search of suitable locations, areas that at least on paper offer sufficient guarantees of success.

The choice of the location is a very important moment in the preparation of a fishing trip and those who practice carpfishing know how this factor is decisive for the catches.

It is therefore a good idea to devote a lot of time to studying the seabed, analysing all its characteristics before deciding where to place the baits. In any case, before facing a water unknown to us, it is necessary to realize the environmental conditions in which we will operate: nature of the bottom, vegetation, obstacles, depths, etc., all characteristics that will allow us to choose a suitable location and a targeted baiting.

The situation is fundamentally different in small and medium-sized lakes, where we often need to fish at close range; in this case it is not always easy to take points of reference to launch our groundbait and our baits, especially if we want to carry out targeted baiting near some submerged obstacle.

A good way to be sure is to indicate the point directly from the shore by launching special markers, i.e. floats that reach considerable distances and that once in the water are very visible.

In addition to everything, these markers are also used to make surveys of the seabed and determine approximately the depth of the lake at the point where we intend to fish.

Using the Marker is very simple: taking a rod with a reel loaded with good nylon of 0.30 or 0.35 you insert a piece of wire (very strong) about twenty centimeters long through a small ring directly on the beam, at the end of which we will fix a lead of 80 gr. about; at the bottom of the beam, finally, we will apply our Marker.

Throwing well is better...

Launching our baits far away and exceeding the fateful one hundred meters is a destination for many considered essential for the result.

There are many carp fishermen who believe that the achievement of considerable distances in fishing is decisive for the result and, without a doubt, in some situations this is true; moreover, there are waters where the use of boats is prohibited, if the conformation of the banks is then devoid of vegetation, long-distance fishing is more than just a mania.

Who better than I knows how much this is a real risk coming from the environment and practicing surfcasting, a discipline where the launch is the essential basis of every fishing trip, it would be foolish to want to deny the importance, even in surfing often long-distance fishing is misinterpreted and in many cases carried out even when it is not necessary, affecting negatively on the catch.

Having made this necessary clarification, it would not be true if we stated that even in carpfishing, being equipped with a good launch and being able to reach considerable distances, does not represent in some cases the trump card, the one that can make a difference, even if this, is not always true.

In fact, situations happen where the marginal fishing is successful and therefore, especially the newcomers, who often think that being able to throw their bait away is the trump card, just that "march" more able to allow them to make more catches, must be very careful not to ignore completely the suburbs of the lakes and rivers, ideal places where they often go the big carp in search of food.
