Fishing Mounting for Tuna Drifting: How to Tie the Hook

Crazy Knot 5

Tuna drifting fishing is one of the most popular techniques and at the same time difficult to practice. Attention should be paid to equipment and mountings in particular, paying particular attention to the implementation of the latter.

The setting for this technique is of vital importance and requires time to be prepared, especially for the most attentive fishermen who do not want to miss the fish of life, should they face a fight with a specimen of considerable size.

A fundamental point to dwell on is certainly the ligation of the hook.

Being careful and scrupulous when tying the hook can only lead to winning results. In this case, the expert of the Tubertini team reveals the secret of making a knot with a very high grip that will not disappoint even the most demanding fisherman, i.e. the crazy knot.

This knot is one of the most used in competition and has been tested several times with the dynamometer, so as to reveal an incredible seal, or an extraordinary 110% that you can hardly reach with other knots.

Making this knot requires specific steps explained in today's video and equally specific equipment, namely pliers, scissors, coiler, 277 hooks of size 8/0 and grip pliers.

The first step is very simple. Just take the hook and secure it with the clamp, and then place it inside the clamp. Then you insert a small sheath to protect the line and the same passes through the eyelet of the hook and making it slide for about 30 centimeters. In this case, the sheath should be positioned just behind the eyelet before starting to turn the thread on itself. Five turns are ideal to reach the desired hold.

After the five turns, the wire must be rewound towards the eyelet. In this case the number of turns is not important, as you can stop at any point of the same knot or get as close as possible to the buttonhole, as recommended by the protagonist of the video.

Once you get to the knot's eyelet, then even to the small sheath that was placed on the line, the end of the line is slid inside the small eyelet that was formed near the hook and slipped down, creating a wolf's mouth to be then tightened with a clamp.

Crazy Knot 4

As explained by the protagonist, theoretically the crazy knot could be ready already so. Nevertheless, a greater scruple would be necessary in order not to risk losing a large size fish.

It is sufficient to cut the surplus of the wire at about one centimeter from the base and with the reeler go to wrap the additional wire on the wolf's mouth to prevent it from giving in, closing the whole thing then with about three knots.

The crazy knot is really finished and, with simple but effective moves, will make it possible to catch fish that otherwise would be really difficult to lure.
