Sea Bass Surfcasting Fishing from the Beach

Piscor's Magazine has published an episode of "Passion Surfcasting" in the company of the Trabucco team on one of the wonderful beaches of northern Sardinia, such is Baia delle Mimose in the municipality of Badesi.

The weather conditions are very favorable, the sun is high and the mistral wind is almost gone leaving a beautiful and favorable sea in after storm condition.

The Trabucco team immediately explains that in conditions of fishing with a still very rough sea, the first thing to do before launching the fishing line in the water is to study carefully the fishing spot to try to identify the best points, which in this case are represented either by "canals" of calmer sea or by deeper fishing areas.

All the best Trabucco Surfcasting equipment is deployed on the long white sand beach, so we immediately set to work to try to make the most of the promising day and catch some good specimens.

There are 4 fishing rods: Impera B, Supernova, Hydrogen Sky Racer and Olympea, all mounted with different triggers to leave no stone unturned.

The first catch arrives on the Impera B reed shortly after the triggering of a "tasty" live eel. The shrewdness was, in fact, to pass the fishing needle through the tail of the eel so as not to affect its vitality and exploit its movement to maximize its attractiveness, which a beautiful specimen of Sardinian bass cannot resist.

In such a fishing situation, the equipment is very heavy, with conical or pyramid-shaped leads of the order of 175-200 grams and lines of 0.70 mm in diameter; the fishing launched into the water consists of a 0.70 beam approximately 1.60 meters long. A beam of this type is able to support 3 snoods of 45 cm, although to avoid tangles due to the force of the current, the Trabucco experts prefers to use only two.

The other triggers proposed are that of the cuttlefish strip and the bibi, harder than the eel trigger and perfect for resisting very powerful launches such as ground. The cuttlefish stripes is mounted on a Shinken Iseama No. 2 hook of a very generous size because the purpose of the mounting is to undermine prey such as breams and sea breams. There are two precautions related to these triggers: the cuttlefish stripe is reinforced at the top with elastic wire, both to prevent it from falling on the hook and to strengthen its hold at the launch, while the bibi is emptied of excess liquid in some parts of his body to ensure that the trigger has a diameter as constant as possible.

The seaweeds brought from the sea in after storm condition complicate the retrieve action, but the quality of the Trabucco equipment manages to counteract their friction and bring to shore also the second sea bass.

Among the stars of the session, the Supernova rod, a new Trabucco 2018, a rod made with special details, such as the Sea Guide rings with K profile and the presence of an additional ring on top, which make it a tool specifically designed for the use of the braid and avoid the tangles that could be created.

The rod has been equipped with the Lancer XTR Surf reel, a high quality reel with 6 + 1 bearings shielded on the wire guide, Instant Drag clutch and manual closing headband. The reel was mounted with the Black PE reel, a smooth reel designed to accommodate the braided and spooled with the new Multifibre Neo X8 Nage japan style, a braid of excellent quality and the latest generation, which thanks to the color variation every 25 meters allows a quick identification of the depth of fishing. The braid has also been treated with the special PDMS coating that gives greater rigidity and abrasion resistance.

The protagonist of the last catch of the trio of cuttlefish of the day is the Olympea, a 4.20 meter long rod with a power of 200 grams. Like the Hydrogen rod, it features Twist Free technology, carbon crossed coils at 45 degrees that prevent the rod from twisting during the launch phase.

On the Olympea fishing line is mounted the last trigger of the day, that of the whole cuttlefish: the cuttlefish is deprived of its bone and is sewn on the hardest parts from side to side until the hook comes out at the beginning of the softest part of the cuttlefish. This type of mounting allows the bait to be presented in a very natural and highly attractive way, so much so that a few minutes later a beautiful bass falls into the trap swallowing the tentacles of the cuttlefish and remaining hooked.
